God, just the mention of Calvin & Hobbes brings back all sorts of nostalgia. I started reading Watterson's comics way back when I was still in grade school. Now that I look back, he made some truly good, clever, clean humor with Calvin & Hobbes. The kind humor this nation desperately needs more of.

I agree. But I think is everyone who have the need of that kind of humor, not only your nation.
Lately, I have read Short Cuts from Usamaru Furuya, not as near like C&H, but ressemble it by the way it's presented to the reader, each page is called CUT #. Very funny, I think.
If someone have the curiosity, check out those pages, just some and will not spoil anyting, since it uses a lot of chars.
